Financial Assistance Program - General Guidelines
The financial assistance we are able to provide depends on the amount of funds we have for that month.

Appointments:
Utility Assistance- walk-in appointments are taken between the hours of 8:30 am – 11:00am Monday- Thursday. If your utilities are off, or will be turned off the same day, you may walk-in Monday-Thursday before 12:00 noon. If you arrive after 12 noon, there is no guarantee you will be seen that day.
PLEASE NOTE: You must be a resident of Guilford County. **High Point residents are only eligibility for power/light service if you have a Duke Energy account in your name.
Rental Assistance - is available on the first business day of each month. We do not help with hotel stays or mortgage payments.
- We will only interview clients with a court order eviction. Clients who present a court order eviction notice (served by the Guilford County sheriff department) will be seen that day (Monday-Thursday) until there are no longer rental funds available for the month.
- We will not have a second line for non-court order evictions.
- We will not collect signatures for the rental call back list.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must have income (employment, SSI, SSDI, SS, Veteran Benefits, etc.)
- Net income must be enough to cover your full rental/mortgage payment each month.
- Will asked for tax returns, or proof of tax refund amount you received this year.
- If you did not receive a refund or file taxes this year, we will ask you to provide documentation.
- Must provide proof of child support received in the last 12 months.
- Will request bank statements, etc. if necessary.
- Must have a verifiable unexpected crisis that caused a brief financial hardship and one that you did not cause and an approved crisis that occurred within the last 3 months.
- Applicant’s name must be on the utility bill or be the lease holder.
- You must be in good standing with your landlord (not facing eviction), or your landlord agrees to work with you.
- Applicants can only receive assistance once per year.
All financial assistance is based on the availability of funds.
No application is automatically approved. This is a lengthy process. All documentation must be submitted before a final decision is made. It may take up to 24-48 hours before a final decision is made. You may be asked to bring back the necessary documentation if you do not have the required documents with you today.
The financial assistance program has a lifetime limit for financial assistance. Clients who have reached their lifetime limit are still eligible for food and other non-financial services with our agency.
You must bring the following documents with you for the interview:
- Picture ID
- Proof of income for the current month and the previous month for everyone in your household
- Proof/receipts for any bills paid out starting with the crisis month and any month thereafter up until the current month
- Proof of crisis
- Documentation of Tax Refund received or documentation you did not receive a tax refund or file taxes this year.
For rental deposits, please bring the additional documents below:
- New lease or letter of approval from the landlord that states the security amount, monthly rental payment /prorated amount needed to move in.
- Must show proof that all other deposits (water, lights, and gas) and move-in fees have been paid.
- Section 8 residents must show proof that the unit has passed inspection.

Food Assistance through our Client Choice Food Pantry:
The food pantry is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm
Food is available every 7(seven) days per household. Must have proper ID and present mail or other documentation with a Greensboro, Guilford County address. If you are unable to provide a proper ID, you will receive a one-time overnight order instead of a full food order. For questions about food assistance, please call 336-271-5959 ext. 361.
