The Greensboro Swarm recently kicked off its Swarm Summer of Service at Greensboro Urban Ministry. Swarm staff members served lunch, helped stock the pantry and brought items out to food pantry customers.
“People are supporting us on the court. We want to support them off the court,” said Kat Kienle, the Greensboro Swarm’s manager of communications and corporate social responsibility.
The Greensboro Swarm is part of the NBA Gatorade League, the NBA’s official minor league organization. The local team’s employees will spend their summer helping others, with the goal of reaching a total of 336 hours of community service. (The 336 hours is, of course, a nod to one of Greensboro’s area codes.)
“We don’t want to be just a tenant,” said Kienle. “We want to be a part of the community.”
