Thanks to all of you for your prayers of support and concern as GUM works to protect the vulnerable people that we serve.
We remain open and are serving the homeless and low-income neighbors of Guilford County while maintaining strict protocols to protect guests, volunteers and staff from Covid-19 and other illnesses. We continue to provide overnight shelter, meals, and groceries for families and a variety of emergency services while taking proactive measures to implement appropriate responses.
The health and safety of our guests, volunteers, staff and visitors is our utmost priority. We are making modifications to our programs to minimize gatherings and reduce face to face interactions. For example, to reduce crowding in our dining room, we will begin serving bagged meals for breakfast and lunch.
Our work would not be possible without our many loyal volunteers. Because some of our volunteers are older adults who are limiting their exposure to crowds, we need additional volunteers to continue our programs. If you would like to volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Services Director Gail Gore-Lewis at 336-271-5959 ext.305.
We have been taking steps recommended by the CDC and Department of public health such as increasing the sanitation of all surfaces, placing more hand sanitization stations throughout of facility with signage encouraging handwashing and sanitation as well as educational materials informing building guests how to prevent the spread of the virus.
Please keep us in your prayers while we continue to carry
out our important mission while doing our best to protecting everyone from this
Thank you for helping to keep our neighbors experiencing
homelessness healthy and enabling us to continue serving them at this time.
