Triad Event Fights Food Insecurity

Run on the Runway 2017

Registration is open for the PTI 5k/10k Run on the Runway event on June 3 at Piedmont Triad International Airport. It’s one of the most unique spots you’ll run in our area!

Picture yourself on a Saturday morning in a place you’ve only seen through a plane window. Buses take you out early for the races that begin at 8 a.m. This year, PTI is hosting a Walk to Wipe Out Hunger, a 5K for those who want to take a steadier pace down the runway. Back this year will also be a 1-mile untimed walk and a kids’ 100-meter dash.

And when you’re done, you can check out jets parked on the runway for the event. Read more about how to register, cost, route and times on the PTI website here.

Proceeds for the event go to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, Open Door Ministries of High Point and Greensboro Urban Ministry.

We’d like to give a big shout-out the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority, event chairs, sponsors and volunteers for their time and work on this exciting event. Last year, the event raised more than $30,000 for each agency to fight hunger in the Triad. Proceeds support GUM’s food ministries — the food pantry, which provides emergency grocery bags to households and our Potter’s House Community Kitchen daily lunch, which feeds some 400 men, women and children.
