Greensboro Urban Ministry seeks to meet our guests where they are to address their immediate and longer term needs. The Beyond GUM staff begins their walk with our guests while they are still in the shelter, offering support and guidance.
The program seeks to rehouse those experiencing homelessness quickly and decrease the time spent in shelters as they work on increasing their financial and employment capabilities.
Working with a case manager, clients identify their strengths and address deficits in education, job readiness and financial management skills that can help them gain a stronger foundation and avoid slipping back into crisis. The program seeks to help people disrupt the cycle of short-term crisis after crisis and instead develop short- and long-term strategies for greater success.
