The results are coming in from the Oct. 7-8 Leadership Semi-Annual Food Drive, and we want to say thank you to everyone who helped collect 50,000 pounds of nonperishable food items. We are well on our way to the 90,000 pound goal — but we still need your help.
Despite two days of Hurricane Matthew’s downpours, our volunteers braved the weather and made this event possible.
With more than 100 households seeking our food support each day, we are helping many men, women and children in Greensboro who are not getting the food they need to thrive.
Here’s a suggested shopping list of items the food pantry always needs. Did you want to participate in the drive but couldn’t? You can make a tax-deductible contribution online and designate it to our food pantry.
The Leadership drives in the spring and the fall twice-yearly food drive helps to restock Greensboro Urban Ministry’s food pantry shelves. The fall drive is a critical resource for rebuilding our supply of food after summer, our busiest season for food assistance. We could not continue to deliver this needed service without your support!

Last year, GUM received 1,057,876 pounds of food and distributed emergency food assistance to 18,106 households in Guilford County.
The food pantry is the largest resource in Greensboro for households lacking adequate food. The pantry is able to assist households four times in a year — that can be weekly for a month, quarterly, or any combination of time frames that can best help the household’s needs.
